What Is Included With a Body In Focus Appointment?

Your thermography experience includes more than taking thermal images.

Health History and Initial Conversation

Before imaging begins, April will review your health history and answer questions about the process.

The health information you provide helps the interpreting physician consider your thermal images within the appropriate context.

Preparation Instructions

Activities such as exercise, massage, hot showers, saunas, lotions, skin products, and prolonged sun exposure can temporarily affect skin temperature.

You will receive instructions before your study so your thermal patterns can be recorded under consistent conditions.

Review the complete thermography appointment preparation instructions before your appointment.

Private Acclimation Period

Thermography requires a controlled environment. Before imaging, you will have time to acclimate to the temperature of the room.

This helps reduce temporary temperature influences caused by weather, clothing, your vehicle, or physical activity.

Noncontact Thermal Imaging

The infrared camera does not touch your body. There is no compression, injection, dye, or ionizing radiation involved in capturing the images.

April uses a Med-Hot FLIR A700 infrared camera system and follows standardized imaging positions and protocols.

Privacy is maintained throughout the appointment. Body In Focus uses a protective screen to provide additional privacy during imaging.

Physician Interpretation

April captures the images, but she does not diagnose medical conditions.

The images are sent to an independent physician trained in medical thermography. The physician evaluates skin surface temperature distribution, symmetry, vascular patterns, and other thermal observations.

Written Report and Images

Your results generally arrive within approximately one week. You receive:

  1. Copies of your thermal images

  2. A written report

  3. Professional interpretation of the thermal observations

  4. Recommendations concerning appropriate comparison timeframes

  5. A complimentary consultation to help you understand the report

Who Is April Peters?

April Peters is the owner and Certified Clinical Thermographer behind Body In Focus Thermography.

Before entering clinical thermography, April spent approximately 20 years working hands-on with the human body as a Licensed Massage Therapist. That experience developed her understanding of how people experience tension, discomfort, movement limitations, and physiological stress.

April received her thermography training through Med-Hot Thermal Imaging. She is a member of the Institute for the Advancement of Medical Thermography and works with Physicians Insight for independent clinical interpretation of her images.

Her role is to capture consistent, high-quality thermal images while helping each client feel informed, comfortable, and respected.

You can learn more on the April Peters biography page.

Is Thermography a Replacement for Mammography?

No.

Thermography measures temperature patterns on or near the surface of the skin. Mammography uses low-dose X-ray imaging to look for structural changes within breast tissue. The two technologies do not measure the same thing.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration states that thermography has not been shown to be effective as a standalone test for breast cancer screening. It should not replace mammograms or other breast imaging recommended by a qualified healthcare provider.

A thermogram cannot diagnose cancer, rule out cancer, or confirm that cancer is absent. A normal thermal report should never be used to dismiss a lump, skin change, nipple discharge, persistent pain, or another concerning symptom.

Body In Focus presents thermography as supplementary physiological information that may be shared with your healthcare provider alongside your medical history, examinations, and other appropriate testing.

Read the FDA’s guidance on breast thermography and mammography.
